Grayson County Fire Departments are the following 16: City Of Pottsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Denison Fire Department, Gunter Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Locust Volunteer Fire Department, Sadler Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., Sherwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department, Tioga Volunteer Fire Dept., Van Alstyne Fire Department, Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Gordonville Volunteer Fire Department, Howe Volunteer FireFighters, Inc., Preston Volunteer Emergency Services, Sherman Fire Department, Southmayd Volunteer Fire Department, Tom Bean Volunteer Firefighters, Whitewright Fire Department.

The Sherman Fire Department currently has an elite group of 54 out of the 2,136 fire communities in Texas. Forty-Five member of this group are trained as Paramedics and can perform Advanced Life Support. Advanced Life Support skills include EKG interpretation, defibrillation, intravenous access, life saving drug administration, and some minor surgical techniques. This Fire Department has four frontline ambulances of the highest level with mobile intensive care units.

Programs offered at Sherman Fire Department include the smoke detector program, Juvenile Firesetters, Residential Inspections, and CPR Classes. The Sherman Fire Department's smoke detector program offers free smoke alarms and free battery replacement to residents. The Juvenile Firesetters Program detects first time firesetters. The goal of the program is to counsel and train the youth make them aware of the dangers and hazards that are caused by playing with fire.

Denison Fire Department was opened in 1872 and for 37 years horses were used to pull fire wagons and horse carts for Denison. Today, Denison Fire Department has 54 career firefighters trained at the minimum level of Emergency Medical Technician and many are certified as Paramedics. This Fire Department responds to more than 5,469 alarms yearly, this includes medical responses, fires and other requests for service.

Response time is significantly reduced by the superior Advanced Life Support units. The Denison Fire Department has the Enhanced 911 Emergency Dispatch System. An emergency caller's address now appears automatically on the 911 dispatcher's computer screen and, once that address is verified, dispatchers can quickly pass the information to firefighters or police. Six emergency sirens strategically located throughout the city.
